PERSONAL PROJECTS

This page features all of my personal projects that usually focus on practicing a small set of skills that I can then take into future projects.

LIGHTHOUSE ABDUCTION

Rotopaint, Stabilisation/Tracking and VFX Artist

When looking through some old videos on my phone I found one from Brixham and when watching it, I could just imagine a ufo taking the lighthouse away. So I decided to make it a reality.

Looking through the original video I felt that there was too much open space on the left side so I decided to add some foliage into that area. I found that by doing so it directed the viewers attention into the centre and emphasised the lighthouse in the middle of the screen more. I experimented with a few ideas for the ufo but I found that I didn't have the hardware capabilities to render anything in 3d so decided to create the ufo as a 2d effect. With this I incorporated lighting and shadow effects into the scene to pull the ufo into reality more and show more interaction between the vehicle and the real world.

Overall this task was a brilliant way to further practise my rotoscoping, rotopaint and tracking skills to first stabilise the shot, and then to ensure the foliage was matched to the movement of the camera. Below is a breakdown of the shot to accompany the final comp.

FROGGY MASK

Rotopaint, Stabilisation/Tracking and VFX Artist

I undertook this small project to practice my tracking skills. While I was unable to finish the project, it allowed me to take my first steps into combining 2d animation and live action footage which was extremely fun. I began this project by create a simple static animation of a frog face and then preceded to take that footage into nuke where I added additional shadows and practiced tracking the mask to the movement of my face.

NYRORA D&D CAMPAIGN GUIDE

I love playing dungeons and dragons so I decided to create my own campaign guide for a setting of my own creation Nyrora. This world has been founded upon the ideas of mysteries and secrets, in a world that has long forgotten much of its past. Magic and science are one and the same, but still the idea of a dragon flying through the skies of Nyrora would be laughed at.

The objective of this book is to fully flesh out my own scribblings and practice writing in a professional capacity, while integrating that into game design and player agency to create a world that players want to both read about and play within.

Below are a selection of taster pages from a variety of the book, but I hope to have the final product finished and released to the world soon. The full book will included detailed descriptions of the world's locations, pantheon, Nyrora specific player races and current ruling factions, plus much more.

All the resources I have used to format this project can be found on the unearthedarcana subreddit. The folks who provide the amazing resources there are awesome.

WHO'S THAT POKÉMON?

I started and completed this project in a day and worked to recreate the motion graphics of a sequence from the original Pokémon anime. I started with a photo of someone and went from there.

Below you will find the final comp as well as a breakdown of the shot.
